Thanks Diana! I prime the wood with Waverly Chalk Paint in the color Plaster. Then to prime for the iron on method I do use the mod podge- allow to fully dry, then place the paper (or even fabric or tissue) and cover with parchment paper and iron- that melts the mod podge into the paper/fabric.
